more settler's days

settlers day had a petting zoo for the kids.

we had to go back about 3 times for olivia to get here bunny fix.
they are really cute though.
kale even held a bunny with nana's help.
right after i took the picture nana let go of the bunny and it fell right to the ground.
good thing they weren't wild!

the girls got their nails painted.

got to make cookies.

got their hair colored.

olivia always looks so happy, huh?
there was also face painting but nana stood in line for us for an hour and didn't move.
so, we decided to just go home.
especially because by that time, papa had already taken kale back to the
petting zoo and then walked several blocks to get kale a balloon.
we went to pick papa and kale up on the way home and kale had fallen asleep on papas shoulder.
it was one of the sweetest thing i have ever since.
TOO CUTE!
here are the girls climbing the tree sally and i played in when we were little.
i guess we must have been older because they didn't think it was very fun.

candy parade and a weirdo with braids

we picked the perfect weekend to go to coaldale, it ended up being
 settlers day!
coaldale has a candy parade and all sorts of fun stuff.

here we are at the candy parade.
it's just down the street from nana and papa's house.
the kids were in heaven.

the loot!
we got TONS!
the girls were so excited and had to sample lots of the candy while at the parade.

crazy kale!

pretty braids.
olivia wanted me to take a picture.

olivia was doing ballet on the railing down the stairs.
it was very inventive.
isn't she cute!

birds of prey?

i lived in coaldale for ever while the birds of prey center was open, never once did i go.
i didn't know how birds of prey would be cool, at all.
well, i was totally wrong.
we went with papa and it was so cool!

this is an eagle?  i forget.  it was really weird to see the birds
tied down.  the workers said it was the best way to keep them because
it let them us their wings.
they could almost fly.
we saw because one white owl really wanted to come and eat kale!
this was one of the cooooolest things EVER!
i got to hold this great horned owl!  SWEET!
it was just a bit scary but obvisously i was brave enough
to be a good example because olivia even held a little burrowing owl!
olivia loves this picture because you can see the owls wings.
liv was so brave!  i was so proud of her!

bald eagle!  go america!
cutest picture!!  awwww!
i'm telling ya, i just can't get enough of this boy with his grandpas!

another eagle.
we got to feed the ducks.  mallory, as usual was scared to death.
but with a little help from mom and papa she was able to sit and see the ducks.
kale fed them too.  he couldn't get enough of the birds and went chasing after them.

mallory and her super excited look!
the monsters!
funny story.
olivia had her bag of duck food and the ducks came after her trying to get some.
the bag fell on the ground, olivia was scared and she let the ducks have it.
well, i wasn't going to let our $1 go to waste.
so i reached down, shooed the ducks away, even pushing a couple and got the bag back.
then i thought, what the heck did i just do.
it was kind of funny.  if i would have thought about it i probably wouldn't have done it.
since i was getting the food back for olivia, it didn't even think and just went into action.

right before we were leaving the worker girl had the owls out again.
olivia wanted to hold it again.
doesn't she look like she's having fun??
the whole group!
we had such a great time!
great idea papa!

randomness in canada

papa loves to feed the birds.  as you can see from the pictures,
he has made several different "bird feeders".
i joke with him that one day we are going to come home
and see him in the back yard with the birds all around him like the woman from mary poppins!
of course the girls wanted some of the action!

olivia going up to find the birds.

mallory was a little worried but did it with papa's help.

a blue jay!  sweet.

this is crazy papa.  he was going out to mow the lawn.

mallory has very little hair. i like to do crazy things with it every once in awhile.
nana has the most amazing hair spray EVER.

my desire for crazy hair + amazing hair spray =

her hair stayed like that all night.  it was truly amazing.

build a bear: canadian style

one of the first things my mom and dad wanted to do when
we got to canada was take the girls to the build a bear.  the girls were in heaven!
they got to pick out what they wanted.

the girls got to help stuff them and then they put "wishes" in them.
it was really neat.

olivia picked a unicorn with a princess outfit.
mallory got a pink bear with a cheerleader outfit.
i didn't think kale would really even care about one but he did.
nana even let him get one too!

kale chose a tiger.  he was so cute with it.  nana and i decided the tiger didn't need an outfit!
olivia and mallory still take their unicorn and bear everywhere we go.
thanks nana and papa!

3rd of july!

happy july 3rd!!
just kidding.
we celebrated with the wahlen side of my family on the 3rd since brett was flying back to indy
and we were driving to canada on the 4th.
we went to erin and jeff's house.
pete and gail, mike, sally and brian and my mom and dad were all there.
we had a some hamburgers and then played and played.
at dusk we started lighting some fireworks.

here are the girls.  aren't they cute.
they just LOVED eachother.
they were all just a little scared of the noise.

nana, owen and auntie gail.
jeff got some fireworks.  they were pretty awesome.
he had some where you had to hold it and 5, 7 or 10 fireworks shot out.
i loved those and even held some.

brett and pete.  they didn't most of the lighting.

while we were lighting our fireworks this random guy showed up.
he had this huge box on the back of a scooter.  it was amazing.
his fireworks were really illegal from wyoming.
it was our own personal awesome fireworks show!
it was the best one i have seen.
the random guy even came back with more sweet fireworks for a huge show.
thanks random guy.
your awesome.

hot air balloons

we went to the provo hot air balloon festival.
it was so early, but so magical.
who doesn't love hot air balloons.
we got there a little late but still got to see the balloons.
they were playing classical music and people were sitting on blankets and snuggling.
the kids (and brett and i) were in awe.

my favorite was the coke bottle.  very tall.

this sweet lady came up to us and asked us if the girls wanted to get in her basket!
of course, YES!
here they are.  it was neat to see one up close.
if we lived there, we would go every year.

more hansens

grandpa earl let us stay at his house.  really, he let us take over!
our stuff was everywhere.
thanks for letting us invade!
grandpa gave us a tour of the greenhouses and then we went to the BYU bookstore.
ohhh, the BYU bookstore.
when i was a child, whenever we went to utah my mom and dad
would torture us take us to the bookstore.
so now that i am the mom, i wanted to torture share the experience with my children.
grandpa bought the kids these cute shirts!
thanks grandpa.

olivia "helping" kale to stay still for the picture.

grandpa to the rescue.
mallory is, how should i say it, a little messy every once-in-a-while.
like, everyday and everymeal.
we were exceptionally surprised by how dirty she got one day at grandpas.

this is brett's cousin, jessie.  we love her.  brant and her husband came down from logan to see us.
we had a great time catching up!
we had a hansen bar-b-que that night at grandpas.
tons of fun.
