grandma's

we stopped at the famous grandmas restaurant for dinner on the way home.
it's what you do in duluth!
it was a fun atmosphere and good food!

split rock light house

we also went to split rock light house!
it was beautiful and so informative.
we learned all sorts of stuff about light houses
and why boats sink easily here in lake superior.
we even got the guide to sound the fog horns.
it was cool.

these rocks were about as big as a car!
the picture doesn't show the size at all!

i couldn't seem to get a good picture of the girls trying to do laundry at the
light house keepers house.
you can go in the house and see what life was like for the light house keepers.
there was 3 families total.
2 to work the light house and 1 to work the fog horns.
their houses were cute and quite big.

tettegoche falls

we all went to the tettegouche falls today.
it was super fun.
there is a really neat suspension bridge you get to cross.
like i said, there are waterfalls all around here where
you climb up one, then there is just another!
we went a way the langstons have never gone and did a whole circle of the area.
the dads had a crazy idea to climb up one pretty big waterfall
and then cross a pretty big part of the river.
it was exciting and we made it!

we all thought this tree with its exposed roots was pretty cool.
we had to take a picture by it!

hidden falls

next stop on our busy day was what i call
"hidden falls".
the langstons found this one year and now they alwasy come back.
you stop on a nice beach with rocks but behind you is a under the road tunnel.
it leads to a series of waterfalls.
since kale had his shoes on, the boys stayed by the shore.
but the girls, we went on an adventure!
we climbed through the tunnel and up several different little waterfalls.
it was awesome.  there were places we had to get in the water,
some places where we had to help eachother cross.
it was very fun.  finally, the moms decided to turn back.
we realized we had to get down everything we just came up!

next, we drove up to the high spot of grand marais.
we could see the cute little town and bay.
we did so much today
we had 3 sleeping children by the time we got back to the campsite!

grand marais

everywhere you go up here there is a beautiful shoreline.
it's fabulous.
we went up to grand marais to look around.
we got the world famous doughnuts at
"world's best doughnuts".
they were very good!

we went to the bay to eat our doughnuts and throw rocks in the water.
then the girls did some shopping.
i thought these sock coin purses were hilariously weird!
we had lunch at the "beach".
there were tons of seagulls.  the kids were chasing them and feeding them.
i think they were confused.

 this is north shore sand.

we finished our trip to grand marais going on a walk down by the water.
it was so beautiful.
there were a ton of cool rock statues and pools.
we walked trying to see what pools were warm, none were.
the water is so cold here!
we also went out and checked out a little light house.
lots of walking and exploring.
